About Theatre South

Welcome to our website!! Theatre South is the after-school drama program at Great Neck South High School on Long Island, NY. Each year, we produce three mainstage productions - a Musical, Play, and Senior Student Directed One-Acts. Furthermore, we host biannual Coffee Houses (an Open Mic Fundraiser), as well as two Improv Shows from our one and only Hot Lunch Improv team. Not only does TS provide an opportunity for students to perform on stage, but it also has a notable techical theatre program where one can work on lighting, set building, sound, costumes, stage management, etc.... Over the years, Theatre South has offered opportunities for students to attend theatre festivals / competitions, Broadway shows, talks with professionals in arts related fields, etc... This past year, we also hosted our first Spirit Week Karaoke Event. In the 2021 / 2022 school year, we had three TS students place as finalists in the Roger Rees New Faces Solo Performance Honors. Vocalist Alyssa Wong (Class of 2025) was awarded a full scholarship for the Rider University Musical Theatre Institute (MTI), a pre-college summer program. While Theatre South provides an incredible training ground for those who have a passion for the arts, GNSHS offers further opportunties for those who have an interest in that world by running a variety of performing arts classes during the school day. One does not need to be a TS student to take part in the wealth of these course offerings. Improv, Acting, Directing, Theatre History, Children's Theatre Performance, Stagecraft, and Public Speaking are just a few of the classes that can be enrolled in. GNS also has a host of music related courses, which many of our TS students (and beyond) take throughout their four years as well. ...and with that said, please explore our site to learn more about our upcoming performances, theatre classes, Improv Club, etc... Enjoy! Ilana Meredith (she / her) Drama Teacher / TS Theatre Director
